News from the Antipodes. Eco Tykes at work in Australia!

14th April 2018 Keen to learn about how animals and plants live in different habitats. The Eco Tykes in Australia have been studying and building models of habitats. This will help the Eco Tykes on Sanctuary Island to learn about the different places where animals and plants live (Habitat) and also some of the conditions that surround them (Environment). A very clever way to study and build up knowledge about the different organisms that live there. One of our Eco Tykes in Australia enjoys learning about birds. Helen the hedgehog thinks he made the habitat. Can you spot the feather?

Wow! There is the feather. Fergs wonders where it came from?

He has also been recycling to create the model. What a great idea. Well done!

What has our Eco Tyke found to use in the model habitat?

Can you see how he has been recycling different materials to make the model? Could you make your own model habitat? What would it be?

Fergs patch starts to tingle and sparkle. He is thinking of tasks for you to do.

A different area in the habitat. Why would it be important to animals and plants?
Is the orange circle in the sky very important to the habitat? Would you like to live here?

  1. Hi Erica,
This is a habitat model of the open woodlands in Australia.
I have recycled a box, pine cones, rocks and paddle pop sticks to create my model. The other bits and pieces are left over art supplies that were in the cupboard.
Many different birds and mammals live in Australia’s open woodlands. They aren a great place for eco tykes to visit to discover new things.

    1. Hi to our special Eco Tyke in Australia. How clever to recycle pine cones in your woodland habitat model. Also all the other bits and pieces you used to let us see where the amazing animals in Australia like to live. They are very different to the animals on Sanctuary Island. Fergs is very interested in finding out about a clan called Marsupials. Thank you for showing us such a lovely project and telling us how you made it. A BIG Eco Tyke Well Done!
